The Republicans have a better than even shot at winning the US Senate back from the Democrats. They need to pick up six senate seats from the democrats to do this.

MontanaDemocratic Senator Max Baucus has announced his retirement at the end of this term. Montana went for both Romney and McCain in each of the last two presidential elections and is viewed as one of the best prospective pick-ups for Republicans. Popular former democratic Governor Brian Schweitzer was viewed as the democrats best chance of holding the seat before announcing that he will not seek the seat on July 13, 2013.
